None of us were born competent. Competency has to be earned, and it is earned by setting goals and accomplishing them, with or without help.

If a student has chosen a goal and has moved towards it decision by decision, the end result will be a personal sense of competency. And the best part is that a sense of competency makes it easier to triumph over failures, and face new challenges.
